Annie, Mirabella, Etienne {Newport Beach}

Sunlight, hazy, flare. Oh, and twirly dresses.  That was pretty much what Tracy ordered up for her shoot in Newport Beach in December.  I, of course, had no problem with that and couldn’t wait to meet this beautiful family traveling in from Las Vegas for our session.  Everything looked perfect until, two minutes from our location, I drove into a blanket of fog.  A blanket that extended over the entire beach ahead.   Fog flare?  Not quite what we had in mind.

Luckily for me, Tracy arrived with these here stunning children and their rather incredible wardrobes.   The fog suddenly looked beautiful and everything just came together.. the pastel sand and the milky sky and those gorgeous fabrics.  I could have left a very happy girl without my beloved sunlight but, half way through our session, the sun didn’t just come out, it arrived, transporting the sky from the softest winter white into violet and pink and then,  the most incredible golden bronze as it slowly fell into the ocean.   I felt all sorts of spoiled as I wrapped up the afternoon – everything I had imagined for this shoot and so much more that I hadn’t.  To Tracy, and Orange County’s ever changing weather, thankyou.

  1. Oh my word Sheye. OH MY WORD! What absolutely gorgeous images. I am so glad you had a little of both. Just beautiful : ) I don’t mind fog. I don’t mind sunshine. This is a perfect shoot for certain. The children are darling. The wardrobe selection all sorts of sensational.

    Heya Sheye…these pics are just divine – you are such a talented & skillful gal! I once took photos of my daughter in a grassy field with fog (Katoomba, NSW – always foggy apparently!) & I loved the way the shots came out. Kinda reminiscent of Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ film clip waaaay back when! Atmospheric & etheral. Somehow it makes their skin look dreamy & creamy. Love your work!
    Btw, may I ask what camera body are you using these days? Cheers x

  17. Eva says:

    I adore that little one! Have you ever thought of shooting in a completely different manner and style? I’m not saying this because I didn’t love the way you photogtaph. I do. It’s just that I believe that you have talents elsewhere as well.(I do hope this is not perceived as German rudeness… it’s just a thought that passed my mind and that I wantet to share: Picasso had his many ways of perfection, and I believe so do you!)oxo, Eva

    I love the fog shots. They’ve got this “un-earthly” kind of feel. And those happy children are beautiful. The last one is definitely my favorite. So sweet.

  31. I would have also been a tad dissapointed if there was no Sun Flare -which I adore. But the grey & white, and fog images look pretty spectacular to me.
    Fog may just be the new black ;-) for 2011!!

    Thanks so much!

    Camille, the childrens clothing was a big mix of very beautiful labels – mostly French from memory. If there is something specific you’re in love with, I can ask Tracy :)

    Liza, I’m shooting on the 5D Mk2 and these were almost all on the 24-70.

    Sheye x
