mudpuddles.
A favorite childhood memory of mine..Summer rain, running around with my cousins..catching frogs, collecting tadpoles.
Given this, if you’re around at our place when it starts to rain, you’ll hear the same old battle begin.. Fun Loving Mother takes on Paranoid Father as to whether running around in the rain is acceptable. (Being British, he permanently thinks there is either lightning or ten deadly snakes waiting just outside the door). Yesterday, arming myself with a gaggle of whining, pleading children, he was clearly defenseless and yay, we got to do this:

5dm2 | 24-70 2.8 | eye candy actions | velveteen | purple haze | softly
I myself got totally soaked whilst finding out that capturing splashes whilst attempting to keep one’s camera dry is an exercise in speed and agility.
Along with the photos, I shot some video footage..something I rarely remember to do but I’d love to get better at.. I thought I’d share a quick snippet of Ivy’s take on the whole puddle jumping concept. I just love her confusion that they were actually allowed to be out there and the typical toddler inability to share – even mud puddles.

Happy new years, my lovely friend. Miss you so much! Hope it was a beautiful Christmas and the loveliest of lovely new years. Kisses and hugs from Canberra. xoxo
-
Oh she is too precious. Hmmm, her sharing skills seem along parr Miss M’s at the moment
Somehow Molly’s skills (or lack there of) are not that cute
Now all Miss Ivy needs is a too cute for words drolly to prance around in those puddles
-
Oppps, that should be Brolly, not drolly lol
-
Oh, Ivy just melted my heart into a puddle of goo.
You should definitely do more videos. That was 15 seconds of bliss. :)
-
Lightning? Snakes??? Nahhhhh…it’s the washing afterwards that scares me! Lol!
Ivy is just so darn cute! Makes me miss the days when my daughter was at that age!
-
Sheye, I adore your blog… I’ve been reading for a while without commenting, but after that video I just couldn’t help myself. You are all so beautiful and inspiring, and your photography, especially of your two darling daughters, makes me melt. Like so many others said, finally hearing Ivy’s voice was bizarre after seeing so many stills! I watched it over and over because she was too adorable to believe. please post more videos! i love love love you, your kids, your strength, and your blog. Thank you for the inspiration. -Carly in NYC

This is the most adorable thing everrrr!!! Please more videos!! But of course I love your photos as well. :)
-
Oh goodness what a hoot! Minutes ago I had streaming tears with regard to yours and Ivy’s conversation about Ava, then to see the video coming from a continent away, bringing life to you and Ivy vs. imagining what you may be like from your beautiful photos gave me a good chuckle! Glad you all had fun, it’s important to let down your hair and get messy sometimes in the name of good clean fun! Happy 2010!
-
Oh goodness, Sheye! I never thought Ivy could get any more adorable than she is in your photos, but that little voice just melted me! And I am in love with your accents.. Australian accents are my absolute favorite! I hope you do post more videos.. you have inspired me to take more myself.. I am always snapping photos & always completely forget to take any videos.. I fully agree with you on the rain/mudpuddle thing. Playing in the summer rain is one of my fondest childhood memories, & I always let my kids do it, too.. I only wish it rained more here in SoCal! :)
-
YAY! So glad you guys got to do that! It’s refreshing to see such pictures any day but especially because it’s only 18 degrees here in the U.S. where I am! My husband is British and is super paranoid about letting our girls play in the rain. I just override him and do it anyway. It’s not snakes though. He’s either afraid they’ll get struck by lightning or catch a cold (I have constantly told him that, despite widespread rumors, you cannot catch a cold by being cold or by any other such means but only by contracting the cold germ from someone else – he has yet to believe me). I’m looking forward to summer already now, so that we can jump and play in the rain!! :-)
-
What fun! The pics are awesome as always but I love the video. So great to hear your voices. I love your accents…especially Missy Ivy’s. I could sit and listen to Aussie talk all day long. New Jersey/New York accents aren’t shall we say near as special! lol Thanks for sharing. You brought a big smile to my face this morning.
Much love from NJ,
Sue

Hi Sheye!
What a joy to see moving images of Ivy and hear your voice : ) I got a 5D from Jamie (my husband) for Christmas and still haven’t worked out how to use the video function………read the manual! the first bit of advice from your course!…….things are moving along quickly with my new career! I’m busy! I am ever grateful to you for the inspiration and for the teaching and guidance you gave in the Evolve course. It has changed the course of my life : ) Much love and thanks always. Abs x

I swear every year that we will be getting the kids dirt for Christmas. They play with mud more than they play with any of their priciest toys. I love Ivy’s concern… is this really okay? Must be trouble if it’s this much fun!
-
Oh my goodness! That accent is even more endearing than I ever could have imagined! Ivy is beyond cute!
-
OMG her little voice is the cutest thing i have ever heard!
-
Too right Ivy wants her own mudpuddle. Smart girl! Makes me homesick to hear the Aussie sound as I sit here in the middle of the USA!
-
I don’t think she could possibly be any cuter!! That sweet, accented voice is so precious. And… I love your voice as well! So fun to put a voice with the images I’ve seen of you. Thank you for sharing (great job with the video, by the way!).
-
oh. my. gosh.
could she be any cuter?!
sweetest little girl.
-
You just brought everything to life….wonderful! Thanks for sharing yourselves with us, just like everyone else has commented…we love your voices!
-
It was so nice to see little Ivy come to life in video and to be able to hear her little voice!!! I’ve only ever seen her pictures!
Her little expressions are PRICELESS!
-
Too much FUN! And she quite possibly could have the sweetest voice I have ever heard, “is people summosed to get wet.” Too CUTE for words! I forgot how much I LOVE Australian accents!
Happy New Year!
-
Way too cute!
We have ‘Rain Runs’ at our home…. the kids live for rainy days (this time of year is perfect!)
Enjoy, love seeing smiles x
-
Sheye Ivy’s voice is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute oh my god it’s so cute I wish i can live with you guy’s oh and will you ever put more videos up?
-
Oh my, this so sweet and the word “puddle” is so much cuter with the extra syllable!
-
Accents? What accents? I can’t hear any accents?? lol Maybe because we are the ones who don’t have accents and all these others do?
Oh the photo collage of mud and puddles is delicious. We do that kind of thing here. And in hail storms. The 2 youngest (well they are now 14 and 11) love to go out in a hail storm and collect the ice and eat it. I have a great photo somewhere of Zed from about 3 years ago where he was out there naked but with a motorbike helmet on because ‘the ice hurts a bit’. I still remember….
Love the video – Miss Ivy is so so cute!

First time commenting.. I spent the last 3 weeks reading through the archives and have finally made it to the first page. I have never “stalked” a blog or even commented on a blog, but I just wanted you to know what an inspiration you have been to me. Love your work (disliked it at first, and then.. kept coming back. And liking it more. and more . and more!)
My best friend also lost her daughter, so your personal story has touched my heart. I have listened to my friend grieve for three years, and she continues to grieve, much in the same way your blog has showed me you have. I shared it with her and she is also now a big fan of yours. You write about grief in the words that my friend doesn’t have, but it helps her to have those words, if that makes any sense at all.
My photography has been influenced immensely in these three short weeks. Your style could never be my style, but I greatly admire you for *owning* your style. I love that. I have been working on my blog with fervor. And in PS, with fervor. I guess I can’t say in words exactly what you have done for me. Thank you.
-
awww… love that she wants a mud puddle of her very own! she is the definition of cute, and you are the best mom ever! i definitely see more puddle jumping in my children’s future…

Paranoid Father sounds just like my husband (also a UK import). Looks like all three rosemeyer’s had an absolute ball getting themselves wet and dirty.
-
Oh, SBS, hearing your voices warmed my heart! Agreeing with others–seeing Ivy come to life is a delight! Happy New Year, friend.
-
Oh my goodness, her voice is so precious..and your too!..Ivy to perfect in everyway1..so glad you had mudpuddle fun!..Everyone should more often!… :)
-
I recently found your site too and stayed up for hours one night reading all about sweet Ava. Your pictures and stories of her are just incredible.
As for this video of Ivy-too adorable. Love her accent!
-
LOVED hearing you and Ivy! It makes reading your blog sound so much different and I enjoy that. =)
-
here is to hoping you add more videos…it is precious and your accent is delightful, ours is southern, country …Kentucky….I often go back and watch videos of my kids when they were smaller. I forgot what they sounded like and it is sometimes good to remember… She has a lot of familiarities to Ava…and all the kids are darlin!
-
I have often wondered whether your children really are that stunningly gorgeous or if you’re just exceptionally talented at making your photos look beautiful. I think it’s truly a bit of both, by my goodness, Ivy is even more scrumptious on video than in photos! I love the way she says ‘ye..yes!” and her little expressions! No wonder you were drawn to photography when surrounded by such irresistable little subjects.
-
what wonderful, fun photos. i’m sure your little ones will remember rainy days just as fondly as you do when they grow up :)
-
I love your site. This post is simply adorable. Your kids are the greatest and your photography is unbelievable!
-
Love this post!
Sheye, for some reason everytime I listen to the song: Gravity by Sara Bareilles, I think of you and Ava. It’s such a beautiful song…and obviously some of the lyrics don’t make me think of you and Ava—but parts like this do: (Please listen to it if you ever get a second!!!)I live here on my knees
As I try to make you see
That you’re everything I think I need
Here on the groundBut you’re neither friend nor foe
Though I can’t seem to let you go
The one thing that I still know
Is that you’re keeping me down
You’re keeping me downYou’re on to me, on to me and all over
Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too longSometimes…do you feel like the only thing (besides your sweet children and hubby)keeping you here on earth….is gravity????
-
Finally I get to hear Ivy’s beautiful voice! Hahahaha! This is a great New Year’s present. She is soooo lovely! She made me smile. Go Ivy go!

Oh…My Stars is little Ivy so cute. I just love the little drops of water falling off her face. I think that I have played this at least 10 times, it is just GREAT! Take care and all the BEST to you and your Beautiful family in 2010.
-
Sheye, I finally got to show my almost 9 year old Gaby Ivy’s video. At first she thought it was cute and didn’t say more than that. Then, when she saw the photos of the three of them frolicking in the mud, she said, “Now I know why she wants to have her OWN mud puddle”. The littlest sister in this family could relate!
-
Happy New Year -Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku!
-
Oh my goodness! Hearing little Ivy’s voice makes her even that much cuter if that is even possible!! just so adorable!
-
Oh Sheye, Ivy is adorable.
I love her voice. and her face as she talks to you.
I agree with Jen above, that Ivys voice makes her even cuter.
Love and Hugs
