done. dusted.

reno·vate (renə vāt′)

transitive verb renovated -·vat′ed, renovating -·vat′·ing

  1. to make fresh or sound again, as though new; clean up, replace worn and broken parts in, repair, etc.
  2. to refresh; revive

Refreshed and revived?  Surely you jest.  The home maybe.  The home owners however, are the exact opposite of revived.  We are running out of enthusiasm for being woken daily by large machinery and trying to assemble breakfast on a work site.   We have no flooring, kitchen or laundry.  Walls have turned into plywood on their way to becoming doors.  And oh, the dust.   It all comes down to the dust.  I take it away and someone puts it back again.  Throw some children on school holidays in and you’re on the road to insanity.

The really, really good news though?  Apparently we’re almost done.  If I had a dollar for every person who’s said “it’ll all be worth it in the end” I could have paid for ten renovations.  If we actually get to “the end”, I’ll let you know if they were right.

Here’s Ivish annoying assisting  Dad with the painting yesterday. (Excuse the crazy bed hair.  It was early and her mane is a part nest/part fluff at the best of times.)

Sheye xx

  10. sacha says:

Omigoodness – that is Indigo, my 3 year old’s uniform – no matter what the occasion. It is winter here so she just puts the pwinsess dwess right on top of whatever pjs or cozies she is wearing – hilarious but so so real. Adore that she and Ivy have the same shoes too – I think they are such a health hazard and regret the moment Indigo was allowed to open that secret Santa gift, but I have to admit, she is now much better at walking (and dancing and spinning) in heels that I ever was. Lovely lovely moment in time. xx

  11. Kylie says:

Oh how I sympathise! We are having major renovations on about 5 rooms in our home! And although we don’t have children in the house, we have four small dogs, its a nightmare :) I just keep repeating ‘it’ll all be worth it in the end, right?’

  30. Jody Ferlaak says:

Never mind the tousled hair- her shoes steal the show at that hour of the morning. =) I’ve lived through some minor home renovations myself and feel your pain. Living on the verge of insanity is only fun for so long. The kids will probably grow up remembering this project as much more exciting than you. Hopefully you WILL be thrilled with the end result and you’ll be so happy to have your “normal” life back. Good luck with the dust. I think that lasts forever!
