Brace, brace, brace.

Ooh, it’s soon. This time next week we’ll be on the lookout for Pinkberry whilst trying to stay on the wrong side of the road.

We have our Tamiflu. We’ve bought out the $2 store seeking in-flight entertainment.  We’re holding US dollars and Ivy can’t stop mentioning Sleeping Bewdy.   It seems we really are going.

I like to believe we’re calm and organized but the truth is, I’m feeling the beginnings of some inner pandemonium. At one point this past week the “to-do’s” became slightly shorter than the “have-dones” which was thrilling but short lived. I’m now running with four different lists and a whole lot of good intention.  Wish me well.

Some of what did get crossed off today: Printing of the suggestions made here, all seventeen pages of them, thankyou SO much! I feel like I’ve consulted with eighty personal tour guides :) I love how often In N Out was mentioned! I guess that’s a must huh?   I also loved the mention of an Alice in Wonderland store.  That, I will be finding.  We’d originally planned to stay around Orange County the whole time but after reading so many great ideas here, we’re going to travel around for the last couple of weeks and explore.

Here’s some of pics of the gorgeous cottage we’ve booked, purely for location alone and not for photo backdrop purposes, you understand.   When I see these, I do get just a little excited!

And in answer to the questions about blogging while I’m away, this sweet abode comes complete with a Mac so blog, I will :)  I do have a few more posts before the week is out though!

    Sheye.
We managed to get back home, after 4 weeks in Asia,-after 70 crazy hours traveling(Reason:Demonstrations at Airport)-with 3 crazy hazy kids. Which means, you should be quite able to arrive at your local Airport too!!! :) And, before that,- having a great holiday overseas!!! :)

  27. Oh my goodness, what an amazing cottage! Enjoy your trip :)

    Hi Sheye {sbs:)}
Oh how I wish you were coming a little bit east to Utah! You will have a wonderful time in Cal, though! Some people mentioned Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur. Both are so charming and beautiful! It’s a long drive, however, from Orange County. Maybe you want to spend your time in So. Cal. There is so much to do there! Yet I’m thinking you said you will be there four weeks, so maybe you will want to go further north (or better yet, east! We’re only 10 hours away and you would have a place to stay!) I know Big Sur recently had some huge wild fires. Nepenthe is kind of a cool hidden restaurant with spectacular views of the Big Sur coast. San Francisco, of course, is wonderful. Your boys would love Alcatraz.
I agree with so many who recommend Newport and Laguna Beach. Corona Del Mar (right by Newport)is a fabulous beach for swimming. Fashion Island(outdoor mall)in Newport is amazing shopping.
My little kids (8 and under) absolutely loved Lego Land in San Diego. Not sure if your older son will enjoy it as much. Avoid weekends! Call Legoland beforehand and ask if any coupons are available anywhere. We called and were able to get 2 for 1 tickets at a nearby ice cream shop. Seaworld is also wonderful.
If you go to downtown LA, the Mexican restaurant El Cholo (www.elcholo.com)is a must. My parents, who grew up in Hollywood, have been going there for over 55 years and have taken us kids there for years, as well. Incredible enchiladas, chile rellenos, and sweet corn tamales. Note: the El Cholos on Western in LA and in Santa Monica are the best. For some reason, the others aren’t as great. Have a superb time, Sheye! You truly deserve it.
    Lots of love,
    Christy

You are going to have a great trip! This post sounds like my own blog posts just a few months ago when we made the trek from Eastern Canada to Australia (Polar opposites). We traveled with a 4 and 2 year old. The in seat TV’s make the trip completely doable. The toys were mostly played with (balloons being a favorite) in airports and much coffee was consumed!

My only advice is don’t expect to sleep until you arrive. And by the looks of that cottage you’ll have complete relaxation when you do!

Have a great trip, enjoy every fleeting moment!
    Charla

Wow! Beautiful cottage! Please share the info for it if they will give you a discount for advertising ; ) It looks FANTASTIC! Hope you all enjoy an amazing trip!

  35. Where is that cottage you booked? It looks fantastic! I’m surprised Pinkberry is a tourist destination. You are right about In N Out however. That is one food place you definitely have to try.
