Buy Me A Pony. {And a Gladys Light}.

I have a love of the silly little saying “Buy Me A Pony”.  Lord, did I want that domain name.  In frustration after waiting several years and still not snaffling it, I grabbed www.getmeapony.com.  I like it almost as much, it sounds a bit more demanding, doesn’t it?  Ivy even has a tshirt with those very words.

And the reason behind my funny little obsession?  Because to me, it sums up our whole (misguided) belief that if we just had that frock/car/house/boat, or indeed pony, everything would be simply perfect.  It’s a funny concept, that you only have to see an item on a shelf or in a glossy magazine, and suddenly you’re conjuring up a whole lifestyle filled with light and love.  Advertising has so much to answer for.

But here’s the thing..I love shopping too.  Shocking, right?   So, with lessons learnt in the new Universe, I think I have the best of both Worlds – I still love and desire the pretty things but I no longer purchase the silly illusion when I hand over the cash.   About to enter into a phase of handing over lots of cash for lots of pretty things, I’m remembering this daily.

We’re renovating.  Also known as  A Rather Daunting Project Based Around Somewhat Insignificant Issues Such as Plasterboard and Stuff.

We’ve just begun, recently dividing one big room upstairs into two bedrooms giving us a sweet little space for Ava’s things and ripping up most of the hideous carpet, replacing it with umm, nothing yet.  Next, we’re tackling the bathrooms so I’m presently deciding whether it would be okay to exchange several body parts for an Apaiser Haven bath?

Here’s some of what else is making my heart flutter.. .

Penny round tiles, I adore.   Ours will be white.  I already have a similar mirror to this one, white and a little more ornate so it’s nice to see someone else thinks it works.

I do love this Gladys light from Louise Hederstrom.  More body parts needed for this one so I’m hoping to find someone’s spare on Ebay.  Or something.

We’re thinking of doing a wet room downstairs so I can throw the dirty children in and not let them out until they’re shiny without any bathrooms being harmed in the process.  (Imagining more penny rounds..)

If I can’t have the Apaiser bath, I’ll just have to settle for the Boffi.

So, it’s a little bit exciting, thanks to endless inspiration from Google and the seventeen thousand interior magazines I’ve gathered.  I’m not sure Crayton agrees, he seems to visibly shudder when I pull out my enormous file of must-have pretties.    My goal is to re-create the over-priced gorgeousness seen here within budget.  Wish me luck.  Lots of it.

I’ll share some photos as we go..

Ohhhh! i love interior design and i just love those tiles you have picked for the bathroom. If only i could have them too.

  2. Michelle says:

Ewww. I love LOVE all your pretties. It’s funny the things we used to consider being important in the old world right? I had boxes full of clothes for James to grow in. Clothes I would pick up that I had to have thinking that some day he would grow into them. Thinking that he would be so handsome when he wore them. But nope. The clothes didn’t matter in the end. When he flew away, his clothes, his belongings stayed. Here. Lonely. I guess for us in the “new universe” simply perfect would be just having our babies back. With or without the pony:)

  3. Tanya says:

Oh Sheye, such pretties they are!! The tiles for the bathroom are just gorgeous!!! I wish you lots & lots of luck :D

    love,

  5. Muffin says:

Oh man – I feel the same way about an Apaiser or a Buffi bath tub – I’d give my left leg for it. Reasonable price, you’d think?
I cant wait to get a house of my own and do my bathrooms. I’ve never seen those small round tiles before and I love them. Always loved mosaic tiles, but these round ones are soo cute! :D

  6. Sharnel says:

Oh Sheye, I also have a love for those tiles. I have white hexagonal mosaics in all of my bathrooms (on the floor) and white subways on the wall. I purchased mine from Architectural Tiles and Stone in Brisbane.

  7. Sheye says:

    Sharnel!
I adore the hexagonal as well and if I could have found pretty pictures on Google for those I would have included them.. And I’m thrilled you got them in Brisbane, I just had samples sent up from Sydney for both! Yay :)
    Thankyou so much!!

Sheye, I loveeeeee both bath tubs!! The tile and the Gladys light are so chic. We moved into a brand new house 7 years ago but can you say builder special. Ick. We didn’t build it, we came in at the end when everything was 90% finished. There are so many things I’ve wanted to change but it’s that pesky thing called cash that we’re lacking. So I’ll live vicariously through your renovations. :-)

    Much love from NJ,
    Sue xoxo

Oh, if you can have all of those pretty things under the one roof, you will have an extremely gorgeous house, Sheye! I’m looking forward to seeing the process in your blog, renovating is something I’d like to undertake someday…

Buy Me A Pony is probably one of the statements that has ruled my life thus far. Literally. As an equestrienne, I do honestly believe that a pony is the answer to (and, I must admit, the cause of) all of life’s little troubles! At any rate, it’s a lovely domain name, and I think I need that statement on a shirt, too!

  19. Melinda says:

Dear Lord, those baths are lovely. And the light fixture. So pretty. I’m imagining that bath filled with bubbles and a handy glass or two of wine sitting beside it. Sigh.

  20. Anonymous says:

Ooooh, love the Apaiser! I can only drool though. You WIL post pictures when you are done, right?

  21. amy j. says:

  22. Alissa says:

Love all your beautiful ideas! Can’t wait to see the end product!!! Good luck with everything, I’m sure it will be knock-out gorgeous like everything else you do. ;)

  23. Toni says:

Good luck with it all Sheye! I’m the queen of creating pretties on a budget, it can be done! Our bath in our new house is an old claw foot picked up for $50 ( :
That Apaiser is devine though! I think if you love it then go for it!
    have fun with it all!

All I can say is…. “GET ME A PONY”.

and if you need any advice on practical things like security, flyscreens and louvre type thingys – I your chick.

  25. Vanessa says:

Annika says ‘Daddy, I want another pony’ in an adorable (yet spoiled) British accent.

Where she got that from? I don’t know to be honest.

Those penny rounds are gorgeous – what sort of floor tile would you use to complement them?

  26. Kinsay says:

Hi. :) I was so excited when you had She and Him playing on your page. I just love Zooey Deschanel’s voice. It’s wonderful!!!

Your dream tub is quite fancy. I think if I was ever in such a tub, I might just pinch myself to see if it was real or not. I think I would feel I was just part of the decor… especially since my apartment tub is chipping on the bottom and I sometimes imagine that the whole tub is just going to fall down into the apartment below. Such a shocking experience that would be for myself and my poor unsuspecting neighbor!!!

    Have a wonderful day.

  27. Kinsay says:

To Vanessa (who left the comment above mine)

your daughter’s comment gave me a visual of the spoiled girl on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the newest one. I think the girl says that exact line. Has your daughter seen that movie? It put a smile on my face to imagine your young daughter saying it. :)

  28. Vanessa says:

Indeed she has Kinsay and Thank You for letting me figure out where it comes from!! I’ve only watched little bits and pieces of it – I had to go have a quick look (and listen) and she mimics the little girl’s voice perfectly:)

  29. Janelle says:

The pony thing reminds me of the personal essay “The Pony Problem” by Sloane Crosley. It’s wonderful.

  30. VERY nice. And I especially love the idea of a “magical room” where you can deposit dirty children and – POOF – out come clean children “without bathrooms being harmed”. LOVE THAT. :-)

We desperately need to remodel/redo but, being between jobs (my business tanked, and I’m looking for traditional employment – ick – BUT it’s necessary) we don’t have the funds to do so. HOWEVER, one day we will and until then I’m collecting idea after idea after idea.

And the idea of the Magic Wet Room is now on my “Top 5″ list. :-)
    So, thank you, Sheye.

  31. Stef says:

Budget-y gorgeousness? You have so many crafty readers, lady, I’m sure someone could pull off a chandelier like that.

I remember a designer who made a chandelier for her house out of paper – it consisted out of millions of little paper flowers and butterflies, one of the most beautiful chandeliers I have ever seen.

If I remember her name I’ll let you know!

Commission someone! That one is easy!

    xx
