Small Thing {Big Joy}

One of the things Crayton and I often mention is that we never, along with too many other things,  took Ava to the movies.  We are big movie-goers, it’s a weekly thing in our World but we thought she was a bit too young.  We thought there’d be tomorrow.

For this reason we took Ivy to see Beverly Hills Chiuaua today.   We picked an early session and were thrilled to get the theatre to ourselves.  With popcorn and Malteasers in hand, she stared with the widest eyes,  totally overwhelmed by the dark and the noise and the screen.    We only got about half way before it all went horribly wrong and she demanded that we leave. She was done.

To dress her up, to be excited, to buy her that first movie ticket…all such huge gifts to Crayton and I and it wouldn’t have mattered if we’d walked in and straight back out again.  We did it.

Grateful.  Joyful.  Blessed.

A couple of pics, taken in the dark.  I’m amazed the camera even managed to focus, almost.

I’m betting you and Crayton were reeeeaaaaalllyy upset that you didn’t get to see the end of that one….!!

So happy that you took Miss Ivy to the movies… even if it was short & sweet! it’s always doing those simple things that bring us so much joy!

It is the simplist pleasures sometimes isn’t it? I am so happy Ivy got to go to the movies and I agree one minute or thirty it is the doing that makes your heart sing Happy Songs.

    Much Loves,

awwwww! so lovely – happy you got to do something you wanted to do

  6. Kerri says:

Yeah for you! Try an animated movie next time. For some reason that seems to work better with my little ones. We are now thinking of taking our twin 3 year olds to Broadway to see The Little Mermaid. Princess mania rules our house and a recent trip to Disney World ( the magic was unbelievable) assured me that they are now ready to sit and watch a live performance – as long as it is Princess related. Sheye- you are amazing- I am happy that you had Big Joy!

That second picture says it all!!! My little one didn’t sit through her first movie either (Shrek 3) which wouldn’t have been so bad had there not been a full audience in the theatre. These are the memories we will never forget :-)

  10. Rach says:

It’s always the things we didn’t do that stick with us. I find myself making it a point to do things with Lil that I KNOW she’s still a little too young to do, just to make sure she has an opportunity to do them.

I LOVE that photo of Ivy! I’m sure Lil would do the same thing! :oP

  11. Amanda says:

haha by the looks of the 2nd picture I say she enjoyed herself while it lasted.

  12. Karen says:

The experience and those photos are priceless! …but all I kept thinking after seeing the second shot was that I hope she wasn’t stuck to the floor!
    :)

  13. Melinda says:

Love those pictures. That first one is poster worthy for a theater advertisement! Abby is always more interested in the people in the theater than the actual movie. She also spends more time climbing over, across, etc. the chairs.

  14. good for you guys!
that’s awesome! GLAD YOU TOok pictures!

  15. lisa j says:

I love that even though you knew how it would end, you did it anyway….

  16. Jules says:

Did she fall, or just start rolling around :)
I was thinking along the lines of Karen, you will need to bathe her in disinfectant after being on that floor!

    love.

    LOL at the second photo.
We attempted to take all four boys to a movie a few months ago.
It was Parkers first time. Being that he had only just turned 3 we didn’t know how he’d go. We saw speed racer and he was fine for about half an hour. After that Corey and I took turns walking in and out with him while the other boys watched it all. After 2 and a half hours we’d all had enough of the stupid movie and left to find Parker and dad having an in depth conversation. Parker had decided to kick and punch the life size cuttings of the actors.
Can’t tell you how quickly we left those bend and busted liefe looking people.
    Glad you did it.!!

My kids never last through a whole movies either. I usually just let them run wild down by the screen. That way I can watch them and the movie at the same time!

I can answer that one Christy! It’s Lykke Li, and the song is called Dance, Dance, Dance. Lykke is fabulous, this has been my little motivational song for the last few weeks. Excellent choice, Sheye! :)
