The Austin Event.

So, last weekend was the party.  You know, the one Ivy did not stop talking about from the moment that invitation arrived, a week prior.  The one Kate and I spent hours prowling around Spotlight for.  (I think she took me to help but I just got distracted and bought a sticker maker, some spotty plates and ribbon made from French linen).   That same party that marked Cassy-Dee’s becoming of four.

There’s an obvious problem with taking your children to parties where the serviettes match the cupcakes and the party bags are custom decorated noodle boxes.. At some stage, they might just think their own mother could, should or would pull off something equally as insane impressive. It’s not going to happen.  Unless of course these parties take place at the Austins.

Here’s some snaps:

The birthday girl with Martha herself.

A disgruntled guest finding out the marshmallows really do run out.

Forced to make do with the classic Australian party essential:  Jatz.

Here’s a ring-in, making himself more than comfortable.

Heart shaped cupcakes.  (I like to refer to them as Motherguilt On A Tray).

Do you think I could get away with telling Ivy this was in fact her party in years to come?

S xx

Omg! Look at her gorgeous big brown eyes! I swear they are getting bigger as she does!

And yes, I know exactly what you mean about those mother guilt parties. I admit to undertaking one once where the food had to be pink, red or white and the plates matched! Sad, I know! These days I’d be lucky to even get invitations out on time!

Now THIS is my kind of party! I am a lover of all things party planning and tend to go WAY overboard myself!!! It was fun to see these!

    Thanks for sharing!!

And by the way, Ivy’s dress is darling!! Love the bright green and the vivid colors paired with the sweater!! Cuteness!

    Beautiful, beautiful pics!
LOL @ Ivy with the empty bowl, could’ve been my ferals faces when the cheezels run out :o)))
Hard to believe that your kids could possibly get more gorgeous Sheye, but they do every time I see them…

& Happy Birthday Miss Cassy-Dee, what a spread – your Mum has done you proud (onya Kate :o))!
    xx

  7. The birthday girl looks gorgeous in her spotted dress. A very happy birthday to Miss Cassy-Dee.

Ivy is her adorable little self, as always. Maybe you can place TWO bowls of marshmallows at her own birthday party. You might score some points there!

It looks like it was so beautiful! I know Kate was so grateful for your help making Cassidy’s party a success!

Ivy is looking so grown up in recent pictures!

  9. Denise Armbruster says:

Hi Sheye – wonderful photos. Ivy is so so so dang cute!! Mason is pretty darn handsome himself. I love kids’ birthday parties like Cassidy’s but I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t do it for my three. The guests however did have their very own decorated brown paper bag treat bags! What is Jatz, looks like a cracker with something on it maybe???

I really think these photos should be buried, never to see the light of day…. what if one of my children were to see them and realise parties can really look like this??!!:-)

  11. Kristen says:

Lurv the empty bowl photo. I did have to have a good look at what Mason was eating though to make sure it wasn’t the last marshmellow!!LOL

Gorgeous photos. AND yes you have your work cut out for you in future Ivy parties.

  13. another gorgeous post Sheye… love that outfit of Ivy’s and agree with Kate F, the pigtails are gorgeous (from a mother of two boys).

i cannot lie… your last few posts have left me in tears tonight. i try to write so positively in my blog regarding the death of aaron and how i am doing now, but i have to say… i am so sad tonight. when you talk about grief the way you do, it is so perfect. i cannot say it any better and it brings me to tears reading pretty much my own ‘thoughts’ in someone else’s words. i just feel so lonely without aaron… tonight is really difficult. i am glad i visited your site, it brought some emotions out that have been very close to the surface lately… but that i have been trying to hold back for the sake of those around me. my face is completely wet now and it feels good.
    two words: this sucks. :)
gratitude to you from across the ocean…

Crikey!!! Charlotte told me she wants to have her party at home. After I stopped choking, I pointed out that if it rained she might get wet, and wouldn’t it be better to continue with Mummy’s tradition of out-sourcing all parties? Thankfully, she agreed and we (very quickly) booked a venue. Phew.

  16. Tanya says:

Simply gorgeous!! Kate (I mean Martha) & Cassy-dee are two of the most gorgeous girls around!! Miss Ivy is stunning in her party outfit, even if she’s so not impressed by the empty bowl that should have had marshmallows in it!! love her adorable little pigtails! Sheye I’d say that you’ve definitely got your work cut out for you for Ivy’s next birthday party… although you could just get Martha to organize everything for you! Gorgeous photos… as always I love stopping by :)

    love,

  17. Melinda says:

Heck yes, you can pull that off! Lying is an essential component of parenting. I feel guilty (and hungry) and my child doesn’t even know about this party! Makes the pink cupcakes with the sugar Dora faces we served at her party last week look mighty dowdy.

  18. Chesnye says:

    Ivy is beauty full! Stunning!!

  19. Hi Sheye – haven’t been by in quite awhile but wanted to say the new site is DIVINE – just beautiful…. and I LOVE the “melancholy marshmallow” photo of Ivy. So adorable! Hope you and your brood are all well…. :-)
Peace and Blessings to you…. HWHL

  20. Rosie says:
