Being brave.

Susannah double dared me to take a photo of myself and post it on my blog. I pretended I didn’t get the email. I then saw Jennifer take her up on the offer and found out Carrie has been dared as well. I’m feeling the pressure mount and then, after Susannah sends another not so subtle email, I decided to just do it.

So here I am, with just teeny bit of Photoshop filtering, texturising and tinting going on. (Hey, I saw no terms and conditions). I often think to myself it’s funny how photos can seem to tell a certain story or convey a particular mood when the reality can be very different..hence I typed out what was really going on when I took this image today. (You might have to click to enlarge and read it). I’ve been wanting to do a personal project like this for a while so I’ll consider it started.
(Edited to confess, yes I did swap the colour for b&w and now my texture makes it appear I have stubble. Or maybe I do? :p I’m putting the dare out now… Kate from Inhouse, come on down..)

It’s the catholic schoolgirl in you, I knew you couldn’t resist a dare and then a double dare.

That didn’t hurt so much did it? Now I want you to ask Kate to take some pictures of you with the family, AND you have to listen to her AND not complain. (or tell her how to do it)

That’s a bit of an ask isn’t it?

    Well done honey!

don’t ask me “how?”; but, somehow i happened onto your blog last night… i read most of it into the wee hours of the morning.
i have thought about ava all day… what a beautiful angel she is, and how blessed you were to have had that little girl in your life!!!
i wasn’t going to comment as i felt like i had invaded your privacy (but i couldn’t stop reading and looking at your amazing photography). i literally cried with you as i read…
but, i sneaked back into your world, tonight, and saw your self-portrait. sheye (if i may), it was like you were looking up, and ava was peering down at you. i could see so much of that precious child reflecting in your face. beautiful, simply beautiful…
    love and blessings, dani (ky:usa)
ps may i add you to my “blogs”?

Sheye, you are stunning. So glad you were “brave” and accepted the dare! I know I didn’t look that good when I had toddlers! And not that I have teenagers…well, let’s not even talk about that. :-)

You are amazingly beautiful, Sheye. I’ve been watching your blog for probably the last month. When I first stumbled across it, I probably spent an hour reading it, crying, then hugging my babies. This is the first time I’ve actually posted. It’s taken me awhile to process your story and to absorb your tragedy. It hits close to home because I have two young girls and cannot imagine what you are going through. You are so inspiring. I honestly am amazed and totally admire how you have carried on with your family, staying strong and striving to make your children’s memories positive and happy. I pray for you all very often. You are always in my thoughts. I think of little Ava a lot. I see the wind blow through the trees and think of her. I see the beautiful puffy white clouds in the sky and think of her. I look into my daughter’s beautiful faces and think of her. I am truly forever touched by her, by you, by your blog. Thank you for sharing your life. I pray blessings on your and your family. I know it must seem millions of miles away to be able to fathom the “why’s” and the “what-if’s”, but I 100% believe that God has his hand on your life and your family’s life. He loves you. I pray for peace and comfort, though there may not always be understanding.

I didn’t intend to write all of that! I was going to stop with the first line, but I’ve been waiting to share with you. Love, thoughts & prayers. From one mama to another.

Wow! A self portrait honey! I know how much you avoid being on the other side of the lense so I have to say how proud I am to see your lovely face on your blog. As breath taking as you look in this photo I have to say its got NOTHING on your real life beauty.

  35. Wendy says:

You are lovely. Your eyes are so expressive. Wonderful self-portrait.

  38. Fran says:

You asked for a suggestion for a name for your project – how about ‘beauty-full life’? or just ‘life’? Bella Vita means beautiful life and it says so much don’t you think? Your life has been dealt some serious blows and challenges Sheye and you have had to bear more than anyone should ever have to. And yet you give so much and your children are so beauty-full…

  39. Laureen says:

omg – look how stunning you are! I’m so glad I didn’t receive the challenge. I LOVE how you added the stories on your’s and Luca’s photos – what a wonderful idea…
    Take care my friend,

    laureen
