Ten Things {That Make Me Smile}
A Few Of My Favourite Things…
1. Sarah Jane’s amazing illustrations…
So vintage, so pretty, so everything I love. (Plus she’s so lovely herself!)

2. This beautiful stationery by Saratams.
Can’t beat a pretty silhoutte.
Or her sweet prints..
3. Chookleaf.
These childrens shoes are the best EVER! Carrie sent me the link a long while back and I finally found them in a store last week..They are just so beautiful and soft and seem to fit the feet of Ivish perfectly. Cheap, they’re not. (but since when did that matter?) I also love that they explain in their little info leaflet that chookleaves are another name for feathers. How cute! (Ivy’s are red).

4. This amazing and gorgeous and sublime and ridiculously expensive dress from Trelise Cooper Kids. It’s just so very Alice In Wonderland, no? Can someone please stop me from purchasing this? She doesn’t need it. Unfortunately, it seems I do.
5. Mark Ryden.
In keeping with my love of all things Alice, this artist I adore. He definitely borders the odd but how can you not love his beautifully detailed work? Not for the faint hearted.
6. And if we’re going to be talking art, here’s my No 1 fave.. Abbey McCulloch. She’s from my town, the Gold Coast but is gaining popularity all over Australia and overseas nowdays. Childlike, girlish, vulnerable..no matter how many times I try to find a new favourite artist, I come back to Abbey. We have two of her glorious works on our walls. If ever a fire, I need to be able to run with one under each arm. I’m Not Scared
I liked the contrast of her very strong, almost intimidating appearance with her nervous pose…Abbey told me she wanted to convey how no matter how confident we try to appear, everyone is anxious walking into a crowded room.. and Hush...
This sweet girl greets me every morning when I open my eyes. I love love love how fragile she appears and the word hush is one of my favourite. You cannot say it nor hear it without feeling just a little calmer. I know art is such a personal thing and what makes my heart flutter might not rate in someone elses World but both these paintings mean a lot to me.
7. Inke Wallpaper Tree.

Well really, all of their wallpaper flora and fauna. But especially the tree. And of course, it has to go with the birdhouse lamp. When I first started gathering ideas for our renovation, this was the very first thing I tore out and put in my scrapbook. If nothing else, this has to go in Ivy’s room.
8. A great day spa.

I’ve included this because I spent a decent amount of time at one today. And every single time I go, which is nowhere near as often as I used to, I vow to go more often. I truly do think that it should be mandatory…that women be allowed to attend dayspa at least once a week. In fact, the government should give out vouchers… It’s a community health issue – imagine how much saner us mothers would be? I floated home today and in a moment of post spa madness, announced to the boys that I’d be giving them a mini spa experience this evening! So while I type they’re getting the bath ready and preparing for their facials and foot massages! Here’s hoping a little bit of calm imparts to them! (Oh no, wait, they’re yelling that they can’t find the plug..looks like my 10 favourite things will be stopping at 8 for now!!!!)
xx
(Edited to add 9 & 10!)
9. Mid Century Architecture & Furniture

I studied this at college for a while, I just love all things from the 1950′s – particularly those amazing homes you see in old films set in California.. Huge glass windows overlooking the city skyline..flat roofs..white stone..You know the ones? I secretly yearn to greet my husband at the door wearing a pressed frock, heels and a martini in hand. This is my only piece of furniture that fits the era, I plan to incorporate more when we renovate..
10. And, predictably, Ivish. I would have had a photo of the three monsters except I couldn’t resist showing off Miss Madam at breakfast today.

I was reading downwards and smiling and then got to the end and laughed out loud. She is too cute!
I’m thinking some spa treatment is something I may need to indulge in soon. Baby puke and endless hours of crying are seeping into my core.
Sending Loves.

yShaye, that photo of Ivy is adorable! She looks like she has such attitude!
Also, i’m with you on that dress – you need to buy it! Plus… It’s on special! If that doesn’t justify it then I don’t know what does!

Sheye,
The Chookleaf shoes are the best, Kitty has them in red/pink, pink/red and gold/bronze and silver/grey. I dont think the gold and silver styles are on the website yet. We have THE MOST AMAZING market down here in MElbourne about 4 to 5 times a year called Magnolia square. You really should check out the web site because alot of things can be bought online. It’s the one all of the Melbourne Mum’s wait for. http://www.magnoliasquare.com.au
Ps, thanks for giving me your blog site a few months back and introducingme to the world of blogging, it’s giving me something to do when I can’t take anymore foxtel sport of an evening!
-
PS again, the reason I mentioned the market is because the Chookleaf people are always there with different designs than you can get online. But you have to get there on the first day because it can resemble a shark feeding frenzy with all of the Mum’s almost spitting and scratching for their child’s size.

i was just wondering when you were going to stick a photo of the lil munchkin in there!! and it’s delightfUL! and she looks just like ava in that shot! i know you probably hear that all the time, but it’s true. yet she also has her own look and personality!
love all the art thanks for sharing! you have awesome taste!

She is sooo darling. I just love her. . .the picture is priceless, as are all of your others.

All of your selection of beautiful things bought a smile to my face as well, particulalry the last picture of Ivy – what a captivating beauty she is. Sheye, you introduced me to the world of Belle and Boo and since then I discovered Sarah Jane. Prints from these two lovely talented ladies adorn my little girls room. How right you are with the day spa experience… hoping to see some pictures of you pampering your children, I can only imagine the laughter and fun that would have been had by all!!!
-
Love the prints & stationery, the shoes & that dress are divine!!! I agree about going to a day spa & yes the Government should hand out vouchers for the Mums.. a happy Mum means everyone is happy!!!! Miss Ivy what can I say… she just keeps getting more & more beautiful! xxx
p.s Sheye, Tayla took some photos that I would love for you to see, if you have some time they’re up on my blog :)

(Ivy has good taste too:)

Hi Sheye,
All things beautiful… Again! Not surprising – everytime I come here I know I am going to read something beautiful – sometimes heart wrenching – but always beautiful!
I have been admiring the tree wallpaper and lamp for Poppy’s room for the longest time. If you are in love with that you will also love the tree themes I have found at: http://www.cocooncouture.com – gorgeous trees and creatures in plywood! Also, this site in the U.S features an incredible artist. I will post the link to her tree, but she also does love birds and I LOVE the owls… http://www.doe-sf.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=883&catId=366
I hope I haven’t added fuel to the fire of all the readers here – some seem to be suffering from internet-itis. Just like me ;)
See you here again soon,
Fran x

Sheye I know what you mean about the chookleaf shoes, they are amazing. Sage had the silver ones on the day you photographed her. I had a look at your photos on fickr they are great as usual. It inpsired me to get some on there and tell my friends and family back in Canada, saves the constant emailing of photos now they can look when they want. xx
-
Ivy is always, always lovely. Even with cereal on her face.

I just discovered your blog. You seem like such a beautiful person. I love your links. We have a similar style. I too love everything Alice. If you haven’t already you should check out tarinatarintino.com. She has a Queen Alice jewlery collection. My husband surprised me with one of these necklaces last year for Christmas. At first I thought it was a little wild for me but now I can’t stop myself from wearing it all the time.

Girl you need to learn to sew there is about 10 dollars worth of fabric in that dress.
