Birthing Days

Today Ivish turns two.

I love birthdays. I’m a very sentimental person so have always made a big deal out of them…Without wanting to sound too Hallmark, I just love the whole concept of people celebrating the day someone enters the World. It’s special.

With that said, since having children, I’ve thought it’s not really right that we mothers dont get a gift on each of our children’s birthdays. After all…on that very day… we were birthing them. Surely it’s us who deserve a marching band, standing ovations and a little something from Tiffany?

We will give Ivy her presents a little later today and I will no doubt post photos of her and the gifts and the Cheezels but for now, I’m taking all the glory.

Happy Birthing Day to Me.

I know what you mean, after giving birth I looked at all mothers through different eyes. I wanted to high five every woman with children I saw and say “you fucking champion warrior woman!!”

All hail you! Warrior woman! (giving you a mental high five now)

ps nice photo, above the waist hehehe

You seriously need to get back in that bath for several hours – as symbolic of the birthing pool – and have champagne brought to you – as symbolic of “I am a bloody childbirthing legend!”!

Sheye, I’m a huge fan of your blog and have read it from the beginning many times. But this picture is my favorite so far! The look on your face says it all….the exhaustion, the exhiliration, the thankfulness, the peace, the joy. Isn’t motherhood a wonderful gift?

My thoughts are with you and your family as you head down the road to your new home. And I know in my heart there will be SIX of you in that home together – Ava will always be with you.

P.S. I can’t help but notice that even after childbirth your eyebrows are stunning! In fact, I have noticed that about you and your whole family. I am envious! :-)

  21. lainakay says:

So true! I’ve often thought the same thing when recounting the time and day of their births for my children! A little amazed each time when I think that X years ago I had just gone through the most excruciating, yet glorious moments.

Happy Birthing Day to you and Happy Birthday to sweet, little Ivy.

  22. precious pink pumps says:

That is just a beautiful photo honey. How many emotions does that one image evoke? I hope Ivy loves her gifts. xxx

Happy Birthday Ivy and Happy Birthing Day to you. I have always remembered something I heard about Ronald Reagan, of all people. I was told that he sent flowers to Nancy’s Mother every year on the day of Nancy’s birth, to thank her for bringing Nancy into the world. So sweet, and unfortunate that this sentiment isn’t shared by every man. You should begin a movement… :)

    Magic.

After giving birth to five babies myself, I’m behind you on this ‘new tradition’. I’ve thought for years now that Mother’s shouldn’t just have Mother’s Day just as Fathe’s do. It’s not fair or equal. We moms deserve pampering and praise for a whole month! At least. =)
Happy birthing day to you. And wishing little Ivy a wonderful year full of being two and maybe ‘terrible’ in her own cute way.
    {belated, I know…but sincere nonetheless}
    =)

This photo melts me and your words make me laugh. I too have thought, it is the day we birthed them into this glorious world……so yes, I agree with your newfound tradition!! I just want to add that while I do not know you personally, I feel I have a sense of you as a person. I wish I could be half the person you are. You inspire me. Thank you for your witty words, your deep tearful thoughts, sharing your heart and soul, and most importantly, sharing your beautiful family with us.
    We all love you!
